NICEST Joint programme General organisation 

The new envisaged programme has as its main goal the education of professionals able to take decisions considering the operational, technological, and social aspects in Water Management, specifically water reuse and desalination from an integrated engineering perspective, by covering technological, engineering, and scientific related subjects. The duration of the programme is two-years by full-time study (120 ECTS).

Intended structure is:

  • Common first year where the basics of process engineering and technology (S1 in Spain) and the water energy nexus (S2 in Greece)

  • Elective second year according to the decided expertise: wastewater (S3 in Romania) and desalination (S3 in Spain).

  • Master Thesis according to the expertise but including co-supervision with an external advisor that complements with needed engineering and technological aspects.

In addition to the academic content, three cohort events are also planned.

  • Integration Week: Organised at the coordinating university (UAB, Spain). During this week, new students will receive detailed presentation of curriculum and study tracks; inspirational lectures; site visit; “integration” trainings (intercultural training); going through administrative issues; social events enabling students to get to know each other and start building a solid network. The new students will get the opportunity to meet the alumni from the previous cohort who are graduating at the same time.

  • Summer School: Will be organised on a rotatory basis by the different partner universities (except UAB that already organises the integrative week). The summer school Will be organised at the end of S2 (end of June), during about 7 days, gathering students, comprising different activities such as: tutorials given by internationally renowned experts on relevant topics on water management, guest lectures, site visits, soft skills training, and social activities.

  • Thesis Defence and Graduation: Master thesis defence will consist of two parts, graded separately: a public oral presentation of ~15 min including questions, in front of the whole jury (NICEST Partners Professors + invited members from Associate partners) and a poster presentation. The graduation ceremony will be organized the day after the Master’s Thesis defence, within the coordinating institution (as degree awarding institution) and with all partners involved.
